Graduated from Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in Medellín, Colombia, in 1980 where he received a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He specialized in "Oil Hydraulics and its applications" in Kitakyusho, Japan, and also participated in multiple updating courses, among which are the following:
